So Who’s Footing the Bill for Jackson’s Memorial?

mayor-antonio-villaraigosaHmmm, good question.  In a struggling and near bankrupt city of Los Angeles and state of California there is all this talk of who is going to pay the bill for the Michael Jackson memorial at Staples Center?

It seems like every time a politician is asked that question, they avoid the answer like a sneaky car salesman.  The worst yet is Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa with his shameless “Paypal” hand out asking for donations from the residents of Los Angeles!  I mean, all tragedy aside, the Jackson family is rich, real RICH so why can’t they pay for some of this along with any other corporation that could make a profit from the memorial?

Look, it was great that the Jackson family allowed such a memorial for his fans, but the residents of LA want to know where all this money is coming from after hearing how much the memorial is going to cost and how broke the city & state is, which has been drilled into our heads every time we watch the news.  We are struggling enough with no work, wages lower than ever before and rent more than double from the past years plus inflated prices on food, gas, you name it.  However when they need to cut spending the first to go are programs for the poor and elderly and the medical care, food stamps, etc that they need.  So who pays, really?

All those black Rolls Royce Phantoms you saw (that most reporters mistook for Bentley’s) for MJ‘s motocade & percussion were donated by Beverly Hills Rolls Royce and the Range Rovers were donated from Range Rover of Encino which has been reported anyway.  Freeways and highways were shut down for Jackson’s motorcade, last celebrity to do that was John Candy when they shut down the 405 for his funeral percussion.  All the police, fire, medical that were needed to keep the piece and so forth “if need be” could not be done without, agreed.

Villaraigosa, Paypal …shame, shame. Now there could be a chance that LA may profit from this, but I’m not buying that story.

Update:  The Jackson memorial cost $1.4 million.  Mayor Villaraigosa has colleceted $17,000 so far….
