DGA Slams SAG’s Rosenberg

Holywood LaborThe Directors Guild of America has expressed to Screen Actors Guild president Alan Rosenberg to shut his trap and go kick rocks kid!

That’s what DGA president Michael Apted (who gave us such great gems like, “Enough”...uhg) said in a nasty letter responding to Rosenberg’s request for a summit meeting of the town’s unions about the 2011 round of negotiations.  Apted made it very clear that Rosenberg’s constant criticism of the DGA was like a “knife in the back” and that the DGA’s is refusing to a sit down.

SAG’s Alan Rosenberg made a statement to the Daily Variety regarding Apted’s disapointing response.  “It’s a shame that what had been a private communication has become public,” he said. “I’m disappointed that Michael Apted doesn’t share my belief in the importance of building unity among the unions because our collective efforts should be towards obtaining a decent deal in two years. What’s happened at past negotiations doesn’t really matter now.”

Furthermore the WGA said it has not been approached by Rosenberg about a summit meeting, however an AFTRA rep confirmed of receiving an invitation from Rosenburg and also saying that they “may not be available” for such a meeting.

There are 2 sides to this story, Alan Roenburg is fighting for his union members rights like any president should, but there is the kink in the chain.  If, mind you “if” we were in the late 1980′s Rosenburg would be cheered because that was they heyday of Hollywood where big money flowed from everywhere with no competition like we have today in respects to Internet and video games taking an enormous chunk out of the Hollywood way of life.  But we don’t live in that age anymore as a LOT of work is being outsourced bringing the film biz to a crawl around here, and  it seems after every “Strike” more and more work is going to non-union both crew and talent alike.

Should SAG members just be happy for what they have considering the decline in work, or should they fight for more and encourage the same of the other unions?

I’m with you Alan Rosenburg, fight those mutha fuckas!   :D
